Plant These Beauties While It’s Cold

Calendulas

The calendula comes from the daisy family and provides beautiful blossoms from late fall through spring. The calendula’s coloring varies from burnt orange to bright yellow to soft yellow with hints of cream. The plant itself can grow up to 2 feet high. Be sure to grow them where they can receive full sun and a moderate amount of water.

Pansy

Don’t let the name fool you, the Pansy can withstand punishment and come out the other end unscathed. Pansies grow to a short 6-inch height and bloom throughout the year. They come in a wide variety of colors including yellow, orange, gold, red, white, violet, purple, and even black.

English Primrose

The Primrose varieties commonly bloom in late spring or early summer. However, it’s direct ancestors, the Chinese and English Primrose, blooms in colder climates. Give these beauties regular water and full sunlight and they will reward you with beautiful blooms throughout the winter months.

Winter Jasmine

Grow this beautiful, bright yellow winter flower and your yard will blossom. The Winter Jasmine’s vines grow up to four feet high and seven feet wide when given proper sunlight and good soil. Best of all, the Winter Jasmine requires very little maintenance and upkeep. Just plant them with full sun and cut them back before spring and fall.
