There’s a problem that many of us have in our kitchens, and it’s a lack of pantry space. Even if you have a relatively large home and kitchen, you may find yourself with an exceptionally small pantry. Of course, that’s not ideal if you like to keep a lot of food in your house. So what exactly should you do about it? Well, you can try to cram all your food into the tiny space you do have, or you can take a look at ways to create more pantry space in your home. Let’s look at some of the super simple things you can do if you’re willing to put in a bit of work.

Use Your Old Coat Closet

Lots of people have coat closets in their homes, and a lot of the time, they don’t get used that much. After all, can’t you just put your coats in your regular closet? If you’re looking for a smart way to use that extra space and your coat closet is near the kitchen, you can repurpose it and use it for a new pantry. This will take a bit of work (you’ll have to build some shelves), but you may be surprised at just how quickly it comes together – and how much more room you’ll have for food.

Try a Bookshelf

Of course, not everyone is lucky enough to have an extra closet that they can convert at a moment’s notice. And if that’s the case, you’re going to have to look for other solutions. A bookshelf may be a great way to add some storage space to your kitchen. If you already have a bookshelf you’re not using, go ahead and use that. Paint or stain it if you want to give it a new look. Although, if you don’t have one, you can easily find one at a garage sale or thrift store. It won’t cost you much, and it’ll give you that much more room in your kitchen.

Utilize Your Corridor

Sometimes, our homes are filled with space that we just don’t tend to use that much. A great example is an empty corridor or hallway. Why not fill that space with stuff? If you can add some shelving to the walls, this can be a great way to add more pantry space to your home – bonus points if you fill the shelves with your prettiest preserves and jarred goods.
