It’s officially growing season at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden in Owensboro, making it the ideal time to visit. You can stop by Mondays-Saturdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. or Sundays from 12 p.m.-4 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and $2 for children. Oh, and members get in for free.

The garden has made significant changes recently and is hosting many upcoming events. Get some tips for planning your visit, and make a point to clear your schedule. You’ll want to give yourself several hours to immerse yourself in everything the botanical garden offers.

Begin Your Visit at WeatherBerry

If you haven’t been to the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden for a couple of years, you might not be familiar with WeatherBerry. The garden recently acquired the historic home and now uses it as its welcome center. You’ll be greeted as soon as you enter WeatherBerry, and the staff can help you plan your visit. Also, a small gift shop is on-site, which will expand in the coming years.

Tour the Gardens

With 13 themed gardens, you’ll engage all of your senses when visiting the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden. Be sure to visit the Children’s Garden and Playhouse in the Garden if you bring kids. Also, the entire family will love strolling through the new Path of Hope and Healing. You’ll feel your stress melt away while walking along the path.

Attend an Event

The Western Kentucky Botanical Garden has events for kids and adults on the horizon. The spring semester homeschool event is always a hit with parents. It takes place on the first and third Thursdays of the month and gives homeschooled kiddos a chance to interact with other students. They get to explore, create artwork, and learn about nature.

But what about the adults? If you want to tap into your creative side, you can attend the Art Therapy Retreat at the Botanical Garden on April 22. You’ll start with a group walk along the Path of Healing before tackling some artwork and relaxing with meditation. There’s also plenty of sharing among the group so that you can form some strong friendships, too. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for non-members.

The garden even hosts events for families, such as the Mother’s Day Picnic Boxed Lunch on May 14. The demand for this annual event is high, so you’ll want to get tickets soon if you’d like to attend. Non-members pay $25, while members pay $20 for lunch. Then it’s another $15 a ticket for the kiddos.

These are just some of the garden’s upcoming events. Stay up-to-date by checking out the “Events” page on the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s website.
