A new run is coming to Owensboro in 2019, giving more serious runners an opportunity to push their limits and achieve new goals.

The inaugural Wendell Foster Half Marathon will cover 13.1 miles of the city, beginning and ending near the waterfront at Smothers Park. Huge finisher medals will be given to those that complete the course and $800 in prize money will be awarded to the top finishers. The race will take place March 23.

Registration Prices

  • Early Bird Registration has concluded.
  • Late Registration (January 2 to March 18, 2019): $75
  • Must register by 2/1/19 to be guaranteed a technical hat, gear bag, and secure your shirt size with registration.
  • Expo Registration (March 22, 2019): $85
  • No Race Day Registration
  • Registrations are final and no refunds will be issued

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in the following age groups for male and female:

  • 13-15 • 16-19 • 20-24 • 25-29 • 30-34 • 35-39 • 40-44 • 45-49 • 50-54 • 55-59 • 60-64 • 65-69 • 70-74 • 75+

Due to the scale of this event, there will not be an awards ceremony. When times are calculated and order of finish is finalized, awards will be mailed to recipients.

What does the Wendell Foster Half Marathon benefit?

Wendall Foster’s mission is to empower people with developmental disabilities to realize their dreams and potentials. Over the past 70 years, the organization has grown from serving seven families to providing service to more than 2,000 each year. Money raised from the inaugural Wendell Foster Half Marathon will help serve those families across 34 counties in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

Wendell Foster is home to a Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility, which offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to people of all ages from birth through adulthood. Wendell Foster also offers Residential and Community Living for families that need accommodations. Wendell Foster’s services include an Autism Program that supports the refinement of social skills, life skills, and community involvement for school-age children through young adults.

Alongside the Wendell Foster Benefit Auction held each September, the Half Marathon aims to foster awareness of the mission and raise funds to continue serving the community.
