Get Some Ice Cream In Owensboro At These Local Spots

Ice Cream

If you’re looking for a homemade frozen treat, Owensboro has a long menu of unique options that will satisfy any craving! Two local spots will take customers back to the old-fashioned soda fountains of the early 20th century. Lic’s Old Fashioned Deli & Ice Cream has been locally owned and operated in the Owensboro and Evansville area for nearly 70 years, and the two locations of Ritzy’s Luxury Grill & Ice Creams on Frederica Street and Highway 54 are two of the last remaining stores in the country of a franchise that once had 100 stores nationwide.

Lic’s Old Fashioned Deli & Ice Cream

Lic’s—an acronym for Lloyd’s Ice Cream Shoppes—began in Evansville in 1950. The factory, located in downtown Evansville, still churns ice cream for nine retail locations. At the Owensboro location at 2020 W. Parrish Avenue, customers will find more than 20 original flavors of ice cream and sorbet including the familiar—vanilla bean and Dutch chocolate—and the more adventurous like cappuccino and the seasonal thin mint (available in spring). Customers will also find flavors like fresh banana, birthday cake batter, and caramel praline. Better yet? Any of the flavors at Lic’s Old Fashioned Deli & Ice Cream can be turned into a delicious milkshake.

You’ll also find a full menu of other delicious treats and desserts, including homemade ice cream sandwiches, turtle pies, and choco cremes—bites sized ice cream balls dipped in milk chocolate.

As the name promised, Lic’s is more than an ice cream shoppe. It’s a deli, offering subs, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, quesadillas, and soups. Each day, there’s a soup special, but every day, you’ll find the spicy hot chili. Pair it with one of Lic’s famous grilled cheese sandwiches—try the three-cheese combo if you’re looking for something extra cheesy.

The Ownesboro location of Lic’s is open Monday-Saturday from 10:30-10 p.m. and on Sunday from 11-9 p.m.

Ritzy’s Luxury Grill & Ice Creams

Ritzy’s is a throwback that made its debut in Columbus, Ohio, in 1980 and quickly expanded across the region. Once boasting 100 stores, the locations in Owensboro are locations in Evansville and Huntington, West Virginia as the last to remain.

At Ritzy’s, you’ll find some of the most unique ice cream flavors anywhere. Try the wild mountain blackberry, amaretto cherry, cotton candy confetti, or the Kentucky fudge pecan pie if you want something especially unique. If you’re craving something more familiar, the Philadelphia style vanilla or the chocolate chip cookie dough will satisfy your needs.

Ritzy’s also boasts a menu of delicious grilled hot dogs and chili, and you can stack your Ritz burger as high as a triple. Complement your burger with a basket of fries or onion rings and you won’t leave hungry.

Ritzy’s has two locations in Owensboro: 4925 Frederica Street and 4527 Highway 54. Both locations are open Sunday-Thursday from 10:30-10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m.
